Eco-Friendly
Flooring

Prefinished with no-voc stains and sealants, EcoTimber offers FSC-certified classics such as oak and maple, hand-scraped and rustic finishes, exotic woods like Brazilian cherry, and high-quality bamboo.

We also have Teragren bamboo, offering a wide variety of colors, narrow and wide planks, and bamboo accessories such as baseboards and floor vents.

Our reclaimed wood flooring gives you the opportunity to enjoy old-growth, dimensionally stable hardwood floors while utilizing a resource that would have otherwise been discarded. The wood comes mostly from barns and buildings in the Midwest, and it’s re-milled into tongue and groove planks with distinct character. You can choose to have the planks hand-distressed if an even more rustic look is desired, and finish the floor with low-VOC stains and sealant.

Cork flooring is a great eco-friendly product. It comes from the bark of the Cork Oak tree, and is harvested every nine years without hurting the living tree in any way. The bark has historically been used to make cork wine stoppers, and cork flooring is made from the waste of that manufacturing process. Our cork flooring comes in a wide variety of patterns and colors, including clickable cork planks that don’t require any adhesive, and tiles made of a blend of cork and natural rubber. Cork is beautiful, highly durable, soft underfoot, resistant to mold and bugs, and even reduces the noise in a room. What’s not to love about cork?

Most synthetic carpet made with nylon or polyester fiber contain toxic petroleum-based chemicals that off-gas into your home. Even most wool carpeting includes backing, adhesives, and underlayment that contain off-gassing chemicals, and the wool may be treated with flame and moth retardants. We carry Nature's Carpet, which is untreated wool with a natural latex and jute backing.

What is FSC-certified?
FSC stands for Forest Stewardship Council, an international not-for-profit organization that promotes responsible forest management. They not only make sure that the wood harvesting is legal, but that the rights of workers and indigenous communities are respected, endangered wildlife habitats are not negatively affected, and that the manufacturing and distribution of the wood is done correctly. Basically, they worry about all of that so that you can have peace of mind when you buy raw lumber, wood floors, trim, cabinets, or furniture. Go to www.fscus.org for more information.
What’s a VOC?
VOC stands for volatile organic compound. The American Lung Association states that VOCs can cause eye and skin irritation, lung and breathing problems, headaches, nausea, muscle weakness, and liver and kidney damage. When you buy or use a product that emits VOCs indoors, you are contributing to poor indoor air quality. Because so many materials and substances in our homes emit VOCs (such as plywood or particleboard furniture, vinyl shower curtains, some resilient flooring and carpet, mattresses and upholstery treated with fire retardants, etc.), the air quality inside your home can be 10 times worse than it is outside. And that number can get up to 1,000 times worse right after you apply a high-VOC product like oil-based paint. The VOCs released inside your home eventually migrate outdoors where they mix with other substances in the air and turn into ozone, which is a component of smog. This is why using low-VOC or no-VOC products and keeping materials that emit VOCs out of your home is good for your family’s health and the environment.
